Este artículo explora en el género biográfico antiguo la concepción de la filosofía como forma de vida siguiendo las diferentes facetas de Sócrates y Diógenes de Sínope que nos comunica Diógenes Laercio en su compendio de Vidas de filósofos ilustres. Más allá de las anécdotas, ilustraciones de la vida cotidiana y frases significativas que nos muestran rasgos distintivos de estos pensadores alojados en su cuadrante histórico, descubrimos en ellos algo suprahistórico, una apuesta coherente por una forma de existir que refleja sus convicciones más profundas acerca de lo que significa ser hombre en este breve tiempo que tenemos de paso por la tierra. Siendo esto así, el género biográfico antiguo pone en escena la evolución espiritual de los filósofos con sus maravillas desconcertantes capaces de hablar a las generaciones de todas las épocas.

Abstract

This article explores biographical gender in the old conception of philosophy as a way of life following the different facets of Socrates and Diogenes of Sinope by Diogenes Laertius in his compendium of Lives of Eminent Philosophers. Beyond anecdotes, illustrations of daily life and meaningful phrases that show distinctive features of these hosted thinkers in their historical quadrant, we find in them something suprahistorical, consistent commitment to a way of being that reflects their deepest convictions about what it means to be a man in this short time we have time on earth . This being so, the old biographical gender staged spiritual evolution of philosophers with perplexing wonders able to speak to generations of all ages.
